How Does Laser Therapy for Smoking Cessation Work?

Based on traditional Chinese medicine, ear acupuncture—also known as auricular-therapy—targets specific ear points that are used to release neurotransmitters in the brain such as dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins, the pleasure centres of the brain, which help to break the addiction cycle. When you stimulate an acupuncture point on your ear or on your body, your brain can release the neurotransmitters that eliminate cravings from addiction withdrawal. Why is it so effective?
The mind is divided between the conscious and unconscious (or as some call it, the subconscious).
Our unconscious mind accounts for 90%. It is super powerful. It’s main job is to preserve and run our body. We don’t have to consciously think, heart beat, lungs breathe, cells divide and multiple. When you get a cut, your body heals it. When you’re pregnant, you don’t have to think – ok, today I need to grow my baby’s heart.Your mind and body know what it needs to do.
Your unconscious mind also organizes all of your memories. It’s where your beliefs, values and your behaviours reside.
Most people approach change by making a conscious effort. The conscious mind is 10% and is either working with or against the other 90% in the unconscious mind.
If you’re having trouble making a change, it’s often not about more effort, more willpower. There’s something in your unconscious mind – a negative emotion, a pattern of behaviour or a belief that’s not serving you anymore.
I use a number of tools, including hypnosis with my clients to make the changes they want at the unconscious level so that it’s easy, healthy and permanent.
What is hypnosis?
Have you ever zoned out while driving or watching a movie? That’s trance. It is a state of relaxation and heightened imagination. It is most often compared to daydreaming or very deep mediation. You are fully conscious, but you tune out most of the stimuli around you. You focus intently on the subject at hand, to the near exclusion of any other thought.
Your sense of safety and morality remain entrenched throughout the experience. A hypnotherapist can’t get you to do anything you don’t want to do.
It is very effective for accessing your own inner resources such as confidence, self worth, happiness, etc. making it easier to get through the everyday and meet your life goals.
Here’s how it works:
  • We’ll ask you some questions and do detailed personal history to discover not what you think – but HOW you think. We’ll get to the ROOT of the problem and all the strategies you have around it.
  • Unlike therapy where you can spend years talking about the problem, this is the ONLY time you’ll talk about it and only for about an hour.
  • And then we’ll start to release stuff that’s keeping you stuck. We don’t park it, we dissolve it.
What to Expect During the Session

During the initial session we will discuss your lifestyle, the role smoking plays in your life, when and where you smoke, the factors that lead you to smoke and your dependency level. This will help us create a tailored plan to help you overcome smoking.

Treatment is given using the finest low-level laser equipment on the market today. The LLLT “cold” Laser is used to stimulate specific points on the ears, face, and hands, and legs (laser acupuncture), which helps to alleviate the withdrawal and craving symptoms associated with quitting smoking by increasing the natural endorphins in the body. The endorphins will build up in the body over the first 24 to 48 hours.

You may feel a slight warm or tingling sensation, but many of our clients feel nothing. As the points are stimulated with the laser light, your body will begin to release endorphins and other powerful neuro-chemicals which cause a pleasant sense of relaxation

How Will I Feel After the Laser Therapy Treatment?

Most people feel quite relaxed after the treatment. Laser therapy also helps reduce anxiety and stress associated with quitting smoking. It may take a few hours for the effects to kick in, but within 24 hours after the initial treatment, most people should have very few cravings or none at all.

How Do I Prepare for the Treatment?

* Set a date to stop smoking and call us to make an appointment.
* Keep a diary for a day or two. Note down for a short period of time why, when , where , with whom you smoke and the number of cigarettes.
* Think about your reasons for quitting smoking and write them down. This can include saving money, being healthier, for the sake of your family or just because you want to be free of the addiction. Keep the list somewhere handy to remind you why you quit.
* Inform your family and friends that you are going to stop smoking and ask them for support.
* Find others who would like to quit smoking and agree to support each other.
* Get rid of lighters, ashtrays and matches and make sure you don’t have any cigarettes around.
*Remove and smoke residue and order by cleaning your clothes, inside your car, home, furniture, carpets and drapes. Smoke residue in fabrics is also been proven to be carcinogenic.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?
